GivingTuesday: Crush Your Giving Goals with These 3 Tips

GivingTuesday is fast approaching, and this global day of giving provides your church or nonprofit a great opportunity to reach your end of year donation goals. Last year, organizations across the nation raised more than $511 million online on GivingTuesday, and Givelify wants to help you harness this global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world.

Started in 2012, and held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, GivingTuesday falls on December 1 this year. As an official GivingTuesday platform partner, we’re proud to be part of this movement and bring you tools to inspire your own community to do more good. Just last year, Givelify’s community of donors raised more than $700,000 for their favorite place of worship, nonprofit or cause during GivingTuesday, and we’re looking forward to unlocking even more generosity this year.

If you’ve never participated in GivingTuesday, I’m here to share just how easy it is to take part in this global day of giving. And if you have, let’s make it your best one to date.

3 Tips for Your GivingTuesday Campaign

Givelify features can help you stand out to attract new and existing supporters on GivingTuesday. It’s all about turning good intentions into generous actions. These 3 tips will ultimately make it easier for donors to discover your organization and connect with your cause.

Tip #1 Create Giving Envelopes

We know your mission-driven organization already champions great causes such as feeding the hungry, providing clothing or shelter, disaster relief, Covid-19 testing and much more. Prepare for GivingTuesday by creating a cause-specific giving envelope. Name it something that easily identifies the good work your organization is seeking to raise funds for, such as “Food Pantry,” “Health Fair,” or “Covid-19 Testing.” Learn how to create a giving envelope in your free GivingTuesday Toolkit.

On December 1, the nearly one million donors on Givelify will see trending GivingTuesday causes on their app.

Tip #2 Prepare Your Website for Online Giving

According to our 2020 Giving in Faith Report, this year— due to Covid-19 — online and mobile giving increased from 45% to 70%, and conversely giving through checks and mail decreased from 17% to 4%.

With Givelify, you can create an easy online giving experience by adding your online button. This ensures that anyone who visits your website on GivingTuesday can give with a simple click.

Tip #3 Create and Share Your Social Giving Links

GivingTuesday became a global movement because of social media. Creating your unique social giving links allows your supporters to give from anywhere, at any time. Once your organization’s online and social giving links are ready, add them into Givelify’s pre-developed email and social media templates found in your free toolkit.

Even when life is on the go, inspired generosity is a tap away when you make the giving experience as streamlined as possible.

Tell Your Story

As I’m talking to faith and nonprofit leaders, I love hearing about all the wonderful work that is being done across their communities. While these three tips will ensure your donors can easily identify and support your cause, remember, inspiring their generosity is just as important.

Donors are becoming more cause-driven and your organization is already mission-driven. By sharing your story you’ll connect further with them. Let them know about the cause you champion and the impact you create together. In our GivingTuesday Toolkit, you’ll find examples on how to create a short narrative and an inspiring ask to use throughout your campaign to engage your donors.

Bonus Tip

If you don’t already have an online and mobile giving platform partner, it’s not too late to get ready and sign up on Givelify. Digitally savvy organizations, those who have a website, live streaming, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube, saw 533% more donations during the pandemic than those organizations that have been slow to adopt digital worship. This is your opportunity for the end-of-year push to meet or exceed your fundraising goals.
