1 Simple Way to Fight the Summer Giving Slump

The arrival of summer brings to mind wonderful thoughts of strawberries, warm nights under the stars, festivals and fairs.

But the season also brings feelings of dread and desperation for churches. Donations drop off dramatically because of budget constraints, having the kids home from school, and family vacations.

Tax refunds have been spent, year-end bonuses are months away, and many people miss church and fundraisers to take the family somewhere special.

Summer is also a time when churches need money the most: mission trips, camps, and vacation bible school all need funding.

So what is there to do for organizations that depend on member giving to sustain themselves? Yard sales, car washes and block parties can only take you so far.

20% Increase In Summer Donations

Many of our member churches have defied the downward trend so far by using Givelify for mobile donations.

“A 20% percent increase in giving in summer months is not a trend we predicted at the start of the year,” said Dr. Robert Scott, the lead pastor of Central Baptist Church, St. Louis.

“Our members are very grateful to us for providing them with this easy and convenient option to give on the go using Givelify.”

What You Can Do

People still want to give, but the simple fact is they’re not always able to donate in person. The only solution is to reach them wherever they are to encourage mobile donations.

Set up Givelify campaigns for your summer activities.

One of the great things about Givelify is your ability to create funding campaigns for all your missions and activities. There’s no need to limit giving opportunities to tithes and offerings.

Running a vacation bible school? Sending youth ministry members on a mission trip? Set up campaigns in the Givelify dashboard so when your members go to donate, they are immediately presented with all the areas of need.

Engage via social media to remind members about the ability to give any time, anywhere.

Not everyone unplugs when they unwind. We might go away on vacation, but we’ve always got our smartphones with us: checking Twitter, Facebook, and email.

Reach out to your members via all these channels, and the reminder about your church’s need will be right in the palm of their hand.

Whether they’re waiting on a flight, sunning on the beach, or just relaxing in the back yard, your message will reach them and their donation will reach you.
